Fussy Refillable Natural Deodorant

Billions of single-use plastic deodorant containers are thrown away each year. In landfill, these never truly break down. This is because as plastic deteriorates it releases microplastics that end up in rivers and seas, harming marine wildlife.

Choosing an eco-friendly deodorant in a refillable container helps to reduce this single-use plastic waste. We've tried many natural deodorants, and Fussy is our favourite – for several reasons.

Firstly – and perhaps most importantly – it's highly effective. Fussy deodorant neutralises the bacteria that cause odours, leaving you feeling fresh all day – even after sports.

We've tried five different scents and all were lovely. Our favourites were Coconut Milk, a lightly scented tropical blend of coconut, almond and vanilla – lovely for summer, but great all year; and Forest Haze, with Scotch pine, silver fir and juniper wood – a woody fragrance that would suit anyone looking for a more masculine scent.

Also worth mentioning is Tropic Tonic – a blend of lime, basil and mandarin that some reviewers claim smells just like a Jo Malone perfume.

We tried this range of scents by buying a pack of minis. These allow you to find your favourite fragrance before committing to a large deodorant refill – and the minis are also excellent for travel, or for keeping in a daypack or sports bag. Each mini lasts for around two to three weeks, and doesn't count as a liquid for air-travel – ideal for popping into hand luggage for a holiday.

The mini deodorants, as well as the full-sized refills, come in compostable containers made from waste sugarcane. There's no plastic, and every part of the product, including postage and packing materials, is biodegradable or recyclable.

All the different scents use the same effective, natural formula. Fussy deodorant glides on smoothly, and is not at all sticky – as soon as it's applied (apart from the wonderful fragrance) you forget it's there. It also doesn't leave any white marks on clothing.
